How we make them

Materials

A pair of Sandela has four parts: a recycled microfiber leather upper, a contoured suede footbed, a textured flatform outsole and two straps with gold-tone buckles. Here is why we chose each one.

Double-Buckle Slide — Taba
50–60%Recycled content

More than half of the microfiber leather in the upper comes from recycled material. We state this figure because we can verify it, and we claim nothing beyond it.

Recycled microfiber leather

Microfiber leather is an upper material woven from very fine fibres that mimics the texture of leather. The version we use carries roughly 50–60% recycled content. It feels as soft as suede, is light on the foot and is less affected by moisture and sun than genuine leather, so it keeps its shape season after season.

Contoured suede footbed

The footbed is shaped to follow the curve of the foot; the heel cup and arch support spread the load through a day of walking. The surface has a suede finish and the edge is stitched. The stitching is not just for looks: it keeps the footbed and upper together for years.

Textured flatform outsole

Thick, light and flexible. The tread grips on wet ground, and because the height is even from heel to toe it does not strain the ankle.

Two adjustable straps, gold-tone buckles

The straps adjust at two points over the foot, so they fit narrow and wide feet alike. The buckles are metal with a gold-tone finish; it is the only place gold appears in the collection.

Care

  • Brush off dust with a soft, dry brush, following the nap of the suede.
  • Wipe marks with a slightly damp cloth; never soak.
  • Do not dry in direct sun or next to a heat source; leave to dry in the shade.
  • When not in use for a long time, store in the box in a dry place.
